Progress Report for the week of September 18, 1997
Accomplishments:
This week, we concentrated on increasing our research efforts while trying to
complete the functional specifications for XmdvTool. Our research efforts
varied widely in effectiveness. On the web, we were successful in accessing
the page of Daniel A. Kein We found many articles which might be useful, but we are having problems downloading the files due to their size (some are nearly 30MB). All of our searches with Alta Vista and Yahoo type search engines were extremely discouraging with few if any potential leads. Library research was slightly more successful. We found two more Master's Thesises on Dimensional Stacking and have found some useful leads there. We also found nearly a dozen promising abstracts using FirstSearch. In order to keep on schedule, we have also worked on our functional requirements. What we have accomplished should be here by our Thursday meeting. We have the requirements on paper, but we are still working on publishing them on the web.
Questions:
- What is the progress on getting some group disk space?
- What keywords should we be using to search on the web? The ones we are using are wholly inadequate.
To do List:
- Continue on schedule by forming a list of GUI design guidelines we would like to conform to.
- Continue our research in the library and find more links on the Web
- Study in more detail Alan Martin's Thesis
