Progress Report for the week of December 11, 1997

Accomplishments:

This week Will and Jason finally make some breakthoughs with their ScatterPlot and Glyph graphs. They should be working fairly well with a single brush and direct manipulation. They all can scale, but no zoom controls are available within the functions. We just figured out how to do that using interfaces. Matt attempted to figure out how to activate and deactivate dimensions, but ended up failing miserably. On Tuesday, we had a code review of Jason's Glyph Graph class and also discussed in detail our progress to this point. We are behind schedule and will most likely not be done coding by the end of the term. We have decided that after this term and through Christmas break, Matt will work primarily on finishing the coding and doing the documentation while Will and Jason work primarily on the research and write up so we can stay on schedule there. Our plan is to have a detailed outline by the beginning of C-term. We are still not planning to leave any features out of the final product. It's just taking us longer to the the coding.
This week I upgraded to the latest JDK 1.1.5 and it eliminated the exceptions that the swing library was throwing when choosing menu options. Also, I upgraded to the latest version of the swing library. It makes things look a lot better. The menus and toolbar are gray like they are supposed to be and we no loger get garbage drawn to the right of the help option of the menu bar. The latest version of what we have can be downloaded here. I've included the new swing.jar file in the archive. Just overwrite the old swing.jar file and things should work.
